Clear Lakes Dental Success with Fuse Software

The ultimate practice growth formula

How one dentist discovered the perfect cloud-based practice management software to build and expand his business operations

“We created Clear Lakes Dental as a startup, then added a couple more practices,” says David J. Park, DMD, an ambitious franchise owner and dentist who appears to have multilocation practice growth down to a science. “We mitosed a little bit and now we are in what I like to call, not sure if it’s scientific or not, but the synthesis phase,” he elaborates, jokingly referencing his “nerdy” way of explaining the expansion process.

Clear Lakes Dental has grown from operating a single practice to four in just three years.
“We wanted to provide the best service no matter where you came from – medical assistance, fee-for-service, a preferred provider organization – it doesn’t matter. We wanted to wow the patients. You know, good service, good patient interaction. They feel like they belong. That’s Clear Lakes Dental.”

Adding without division

Park says Fuse, his modern, cloud-based practice management system, became key to increasing transparency across locations. “I’m a multipractice owner and I can see everything. That’s very powerful. We have four offices and each has their own login. We can access all of those. That’s the biggest thing I love about Fuse.”

His lead hygienist, Ying Thao, agrees. “It helps to improve collaboration with the other locations. They have real-time accessibility to the schedule. So let’s say we have a patient that wants to schedule same day, we can look ahead of time and check the other location’s schedule and fit them in. That helps the patient, as well as the company as a whole.”

Best of all, they relate, Fuse empowers staff to access data anytime, from anywhere. “I can work from home if I need to. For example, say I did an extraction and an emergency came up so I had to go to that emergency, whereas, then I would normally have to go back to the clinic,” says Park.

Thao concurs the remote access Fuse offers is invaluable. “If you’re having a really busy day and you need to take care of some notes, you can easily access the program at home and catch up on any work.”

Thao also says Fuse’s features provide the perfect mix of elements to enhance the dental staff experience, from front to back office. “In terms of hygiene recall, it has a really good hygiene system. You’re able to curate a recall schedule for the patient and have easy accessibility. You can set recall where they can come in every three months to 12 months. That applies for X-rays as well as varnishes.”

In addition, Fuse brings data together so it’s right there on screen for the patient and provider. “I like how you can keep multiple tabs open at the same time, like perio charting and the X-rays. That helps to improve patient acceptance with the treatment plan,” she says.

“It’s a no-brainer to choose Fuse.”

An equation for easier onboarding

When it comes to ensuring incoming staff are prepared to take on the daily challenges of office operations, Park says Fuse is designed with the right method in mind. “I’ve used a lot of different interfaces and it’s very user-friendly. Fuse actually has this program on the side where you can ask questions and they’ll give you a step-by-step on what you’re trying to achieve or do. It’s very crucial when we have new staff members because they need to learn fast. We don’t want to train them for a week – that’s a lot of time. So I’m really glad that Fuse can put everything together very nicely.”

Thao, too, points to the intuitive nature of Fuse for employee onboarding. “What’s really nice is they have the ‘Walk-me’ feature. It’s great for new people, especially if you’re training and they have any questions or even if you have questions, you can look up ways to navigate the software.”

Multiplying for success

Park plans to open at least 50 franchised practices across the U.S., helping patients and dental professionals alike. “My eventual goal is to help out dentists in the U.S. They often want to do something other than an associateship. They can try opening their own practice, but it might take a big toll on their time and family. So if I can create something in the middle and then really have a pronounced effect, I think I want to do that. If I can contribute to the community and to the dentist, why not? It’s an amalgam of both worlds.”

A combination, he says, that has proven to be a brilliant blend for growth, illuminated by a smart software solution. “When we expand even further, through our franchises, I think it’s going to be one of the biggest tools for each franchisee owner. It’s a no-brainer to choose Fuse.”
