Amalgam Condensers/Pluggers are specially designed instruments to plug and place amalgam without risking injury to sensitive tissue. With the Bredall style condensation pressure is directed to gingival and occlusal areas, not angulated towards the matrix bands. This is important when the operator is seated, because the dentist does not have to contort with the instruments to get packing thrust and the patient does not have to open as wide.
