Handpiece Chucks
The chuck is part of the handpiece turbine assembly and is the mechanism that physically holds or retains the bur in place during operation. Typically there are two types of chuck mechanisms, autochuck and manual. The main difference between the two is that an autochuck mechanism does not require a tool to replace the bur, whereas the manual chuck type does require a “bur tool”. Many autochucks use the “pushbutton” mechanism which is popular because it allows the operator to change burs quickly by simply pressing a button.
